Welcome back to Term Two in Room 11.

We've started the Term with a hiss and a roar! Spelling, spelling spelling!

The NZ Council for Educational Research created Essential Spelling Word Lists. The 290 words in these lists are the words used most often when we write. Together, they make up about 75% of most writing, so they are important. These words have been arranged in alphabetical order and put in 7 lists according to how often they are used. The words in List 1 are used most often, the words in List 2 next most often, and so on. Because they are used so often, it is very important that students learn to use and spell each one.

The New Zealand Education Curriculum outlines an expectation by year level as to the list students should be fluent with.

At the end of Year 3, students should be able to write and use correctly all the words in Lists 1, 2, 3 and 4.

All the students in Room 11 have been tested on these words and individualised Spelling Lists will be posted weekly on www.spellingcity.com/mcqueenroom11
No "Log on / Signing in" is required to access student lists, they're simply displayed at the above link.

The Essential Spelling Lists 1-4 can also be found at this website simply by scrolling down the page.

Students' weekly Spelling Lists will also include at least 2 Topic related words.

The website provides some online free spelling activities and games that will support the learning of these words.

Students will be tested on their Spelling List every Friday.

Room 11 students have information about Spelling City glued into their Home Communication books.
