A visit from the 'Bird Lady' - Ms Sylvia Durrant
On Monday the 1st of August, Room 11 was very lucky to have Sylvia Durrant come into class with a penguin, a sea bird, an injured parrot and her dog Missy.
Ms Sylvia with a 'Sea Bird'.
The children and I were fascinated by the way Sylvia handled the birds and the knowledge she has about the care and needs of these creatures.
Sylvia tends to thousands of birds a year and has done so for around 30 years now.
She does amazing work for our feathered friends and we are extremely grateful that she could spare the time to come and talk to the children.
Sylvia is now 83 years old. She is still passionate about her work and is able to continue (up to 7 days a week!!) with the help from volunteers and donations.

Here are some more pics from the day ...
Ms Sylvia's dog Missy. She treats the birds like sheep!
She herds them, rounds them up and never takes her eyes off them!
This is a cute little picture of the penguin. Such a cute little beak!
Poor penguin wondering who all these children are!! :)
Making sure his 'Mum' is still there!
Watching out for that pesky dog Missy who keeps nipping at her tail ....
Bye Bye little penguin. Have a safe trip back to your natural habitat.
