Bird and Nest Sequencing Stories
Bird and Nest Sequencing Stories
Week 1, Term 4.
As the lead-up to our asTTle writing sample
(for assessment and reporting) Room 11
wrote a sequencing story.
The children usually sequence/order their own story but this time I put the story in order so all of the class had to follow the same sequence.
I spoke with each child individually and we discussed how they feel they are doing against their Writing goals. Then we re-crafted stories together and generally had fun with the process.
I am very proud of how the kids are tracking with their writing. Everyone put their best 'pencil' forward and we achieved and awesome communal result.
Here's the process behind our end product, what we did and how it turned out!
Enjoy!!

Calendar Art
Hi all and welcome to Term 4,
Just a reminder that all Calendar Art orders must be in by the end of this week (Friday the 20th).
The children will have brought home the order form tonight and a reminder notice.
These pieces of artwork are individualised with your child's hand-print, a personal poem
and their own colour choices.
Thank you for your support.

Term 2 Holiday Stories
The children of Room 11 have written 'Holiday Stories' and decorated the stories with some crayon and dye artwork. Then Miss O published the stories and we made it into our very own book
for the class library.
The Class Writing Goal was to use different sentence starters
(instead of the usual 'In the holidays I ... !!')
I think they did well, check them out ...
“MMMmmmmm”
I said. In front of me is a yummy pizza. Oh! I thought, it is a pepperoni
pizza! My favourite kind! Then I ate the crispy pizza … Crunch! Crunch! Crunch!
I said to my parents “MMMmmmm, yummy in my tummy!
I love
pizza.

Yay! In
the holidays, I went to the Circus. At the Circus there was the world’s biggest
cannon! A man is going in the big cannon and he’s going to be shot into the
air! So, they start the cannon by pushing some buttons and he’s up and away!
Thankfully, he landed on a soft safety trampoline.
There
were motorbikes as well. There were four of them and they were going very fast
inside a globe.
But my
favourite Circus act is a Clown that didn’t talk. He just used a whistle!
It was
fun going to the Circus!

the truck.
I really
like it.

… my baby sister has just bitten down on a hard plastic Duplo giraffe and hurt
her gums! She thought it was Sophie the giraffe. Sophie is a teether which is
something that babies chew on. My Mum found Sophie and gave it to my sister.
Then she told my Uncle off for giving her the wrong giraffe!!

“Happy
Birthday Brax and Tama” I said to my baby brothers. Guess what they said!? “I
don’t like my presents … I love them!” and “I am four, YAY!”
But,
that’s not all … we went to CHIPMUNKS! There was a girl there that kissed me
and my brothers … she was a bit strange!

One Sunday
my Mum, Dad and I went shopping. They had ice-cream but the shop didn’t Rocky
Road, which is the one that I like. “NNOooooo, they don’t have my favourite
flavour!!” I said. Then I saw Jaw Breakers. There were 6 for 60c so I bought
them! Different colours had different flavours. Every time you suck them the
sugary layer comes off and then you get a different layer and a different
colour!

I was so
happy because we went out to the movies today. I looked out the window and saw
that it is a beautiful, sunny day. Mum, my sister and I walked to the movie
theatre from our house. Mum bought us some chewy lollies to eat. They were
delicious.
When we
went into the movie I noticed it was very dark but the screen was really
bright. There were lots and lots of seats and then I could hear the adverts
before the movie playing really loud.
We found
a good seat and we were all very excited to see the movie. It was ‘Despicable
Me 3’. The movie was really funny and my favourite character was Dru (Gru’s
twin brother).
The day
was great.

08.03.17. Dr Ross Bernay (from AUT University) pops in for a visit!
Being a passionate educator and literacy specialist, Mr Bernay brought in a range of books to share and support us with our Turangawaewae Inquiry.
After reading a couple of stories, the children got involved in a small group activity and recorded ideas together. All the groups then took turns in presenting their ideas to the class. It was awesome to see everyone sharing their learning.
In return, we had the opportunity to show Mr Bernay our 'Mindful movements' which we practice in class (The children can show you these) and we were also able to introduce Austen the penguin. Some of the children shared Austen's home adventures with Mr Bernay which he really enjoyed because penguins are his favourite animal!!
We all had a great time and learnt lots from each other. We look forward to welcoming Mr Bernay back again sometime to share some more of our learning.
Autumn Words and Autumn Colours
Autumn Acrostic Poems
Week 1 & 2. Term 2.
Autumn
is a cold, sleepy time when the air is frosty
Up in
the sky, I see birds flying, cold in the autumn air
The
wind howls in the deep, dark night
Underneath
the remaining leaves on the trees, birds make their twiggy nests
Muddy
puddles are wet and slimy
No
leaves are left on the frosty trees
Poet:
Levi
Autumn
is when all the leaves fall off the crusty trees
Use an
umbrella just in case it rains
The
amazing autumn days are fun because the world is full of colourful leaves
Up in
the wet trees, I see lovely golden leaves fluttering down on the slippery
ground
Muddy
puddles are cold in autumn, so have a Milo after splashing!
Nests
might blow away in the strong damp wind

Autumn is a time to snuggle up and be cozy
Up high on the rusty coloured branches, leaves fall down like glitter
The leaves fall from high in the air
Use a rake to pull the leaves together in a big frosty pile
Make hot chocolate and get warm by the small heater
Night comes, all the shops close and you can hear the wind howling … wshwsh!!
Poet: Ronak
All the yellowy red leaves fall down in Autumn
Unhappy leaves fall from the tree silently
Trees lose their crunchy leaves 1 by 1
Until the end of winter, the ground will be damp and soggy
Many days just stuck inside
Nice hot chocolates will keep us warm and cozy
Poet: Carter
All of the golden leaves are wet and brown
Underneath the trees I kick a big pile of yellow leaves
The season of autumn is cold so we need to have a lot of cozy blankets
Under the blanket, my family tells stories at night-time till we sleep

Autumn is a cold time so I cuddle up in the blankets
Up high in the trees, the wind howls
Through the trees, I see dark clouds
Under the leaves I find squishy bugs
Mud puddles come after rain and I wear my stripy blue jacket with my gumboots to play
Night comes quickly in autumn and yellowy brown leaves fall to the ground
Poet: Talia

No leaves on the trees by the end of winter
Poet: Johnson
All the crunchy leaves swirl in fast circles
Up high in trees that have rough trunks, there are no leaves left
The autumn leaves have all fallen down to the soft squishy ground
Under your feet the golden leaves crack and crunch
My Mum makes yummy hot chocolate for me and my little brother
No singlets or shorts in autumn!
Poet: Cody
All the wonderful coloured leaves, gently falling onto the ground
Up on the tall, lumpy tree, there are thin leaves that are brown
Tough rain comes, it’s time for a hot cocoa
Umbrella’s break and shake when wind and rain falls
Muddy roots squeeze themselves out of the chilly earth
Now autumn is gone
Poet: Anahera
Autumn’s a cold season. Brown, yellow and red leaves gently fall and crunch under foot
Up in the windy sky there are branches swaying nearby
Torrential rain swirls like a tornado and branches break and snap
Unpredictable weather and cold foggy mornings
Muddy puddles, splash, splosh! Rainy days, drip drop! Lightning strikes, boom, spark!
Nights are colder but the Milo is as warm as the blanket on the couch
Poem: Lexi
Autumn is a cozy time. It is a time to have dark hot chocolate
Underneath the bare branches there are lovely wet leaves
The days are shorter and the nights are longer
Upon the rooftops birds are cuddled together in the cold wind
Mud comes up through the grass
Night time is snuggle time. I watch movies in bed with my Mum
Poet: Eshaan
Autumn is the most colourful season of the year
Up in the tall trees the windy wind blows the soggy leaves
There are cold bugs resting in the bumpy, rough bark of the spiny tree
Under the long long grass, worms move slowly in the smelly dirt
Muddy puddles are fun to roll, jump and splash in with my purple owl boots
Night lights on, snuggling my bunny, blankets are warm
Poet: Maeve
All day in autumn, it’s really cold
Underneath rooves and outside too
Tonight it is deep and dark outside
Uncomfortable feeling in the woods far far away
Mammals can get cold out in nature
Noodles are warm and they make me feel marvellous
Poet: Rico
Autumn leaves fall slowly on the muddy ground
Up in the sky the sun shines bright
The family watches movies when rain drops fall on our roof
Under the trees, the sun light looks lovely when it shines through the leaves
More of the sky is beautiful because of the changing colours
Night light peeks out at me in the dark
Poet: Chelsea
Autumn is a feast time. Hot cocoa, soup and much more!
Up high in the tree tops, colourful leaves break off the branches and float down to earth

Underneath the soggy grey clouds everything gets wet, so get your umbrellas out!
Moon light in the night glows so bright whilst I am sleeping

All the soggy leaves float down now because its autumn
Under the ground worms hear the sound of the rain

keeps comfortable under a warm pink fluffy blanket
Nanna
likes to do that too!
